Manual perio charting takes 10–15 minutes per patient and often requires an assistant. With Tandela you dictate pocket depths, bleeding, plaque and furcations as you examine. Your hands stay with the patient.

Periodontitis is one of the most common chronic conditions of the oral cavity. Up to 40 percent of Swedish adults have some form of periodontitis, and the share rises with age. A complete periodontal documentation typically includes pocket depths at six sites per tooth, bleeding on probing, plaque presence and furcation involvement. The problem is that manual recording is slow, requires free hands and often an assistant entering values into the practice management system. As a result, perio charting is done too rarely and exams take longer than necessary.
You examine the patient with the probe in your hand and dictate values as you go. Pocket depths, gingival margin, bleeding on probing, plaque and furcations. Tandela is trained on Swedish dental terminology and structures what the clinician dictates per tooth and per site into a draft. You don't have to take your hands away from the mouth, switch to the keyboard or ask an assistant to enter values for you. Start and pause the recording with a single button press, for example during scaling or instruction steps.
Dental terminology is hard to transcribe. "Buccal" can sound like other words. Tandela is trained on Swedish dental terminology and handles common pronunciation variants without transcribing wrong. You can dictate several teeth in a row, jump between jaws and correct with your voice. If something is unclear, the system asks instead of assuming. Every dictated value is shown in real time on the perio chart draft so the clinician can verify as the exam progresses.
Tandela shows a visual perio chart draft that fills in in real time as the clinician dictates. Pocket depths, bleeding and plaque are shown per tooth and per site. The clinician sees immediately if a dictated value looks unusual or if a site has not been dictated. The chart follows the six-site format used in Swedish periodontology: three sites buccal and three lingual per tooth. Dictated teeth are marked. You can navigate and correct individual values with your voice or manually.
Dictate continuously during the exam. No assistant needed.
Begin the exam with the probe. Dictate pocket depths and other values as you work.
Pocket depths, bleeding, plaque and furcations the clinician dictates are structured per tooth and per site into a perio chart draft.
The perio chart draft updates visually while the clinician dictates. Values that look unusual or sites that have not been dictated are shown for the clinician to review.
The clinician reviews the perio chart draft. Correct with your voice if needed. Copy into the practice management system.
